What makes a good IPS monitor?!
IPS (In-Plane Switching)
Why they call it so doesn't matter. What you should know is that this production technology is capable of producing screen panels with better quality. In most cases we find IPS and TN panel-mounted monitors at the market. Latter falls short in almost all the features nowadays.
One of the most important is the viewing angle. This is what I am going to explain in a little more detail.
Find out how your screen behaves with the following image!
You need to pay attention to the corners of the screen. Also try to check out from both sides as well as the upper and lower parts from the same distance. You'll see some parts of the display getting dark and fade. The contrast and the colors vividness dramatically deteriorates at a bad or even a mid-range monitor. I have seen a laptop display with no viewing angle I could have seen the whole surface without getting dark and fade. If you begin to pay attention to these things you will meet a lot of bad examples.
I made a video on which you'll definitely feel the difference between the two panel types.

Viewing angle means from what angle can we see the displayed image on the monitor.
For example: In a case of a TN panel-mounted monitor it is 170° / 160°
(from both sides+upper and lower parts)
This is one of the most subjective of all parameters. Producers often give them a value which is far from the useful range in my opinion. It is almost impossible to determine whether the display is turned on or off from 140°.
